The Crawley News Interview

Onwards and upwards! Last week I had an interview with the Crawley News about my artwork. To read the full interview please check out the link :D ~ Nix

The Open Studio

As from the 8th of November my artwork is available to view and purchase in The Open Studio, 168 Kings Road Arches, Brighton Beach, Brighton. The past few days have been intense, but absolutely worth it! The gallery is up, priced and being viewed by the public. Its nice being there to talk to visitors, I'm finding the experience slightly unnerving from a sort of modest point of view but I'm sure I will get used to it - and enjoy the praise. I can't wait to have familiar faces visit and see my work. Any excuse to be a social butterfly! :) Everyone is welcome - and if you want to see me there let me know so I can be there to make you a cup of tea and show you around.

Good News!

In 7 weeks (roughly) time I will have my own studio and gallery at 168 Kings Road Arches, Brighton Beach, Sussex, BN1, where my work will be on show, available to buy at marked prices. I will be working in the studio at random times but if anyone is interested in me and my work, appointments can be made for when I will be available there.

Once I’m set up I will be able to give more information on times, dates and what galleries are on show. Exciting times. I can’t wait to get started.

'Brighton Pier'

I'm currently working on producing a number of galleries; my first is based on 'Brighton'. Ideally I'd like to hold an exhibition there and it seems suitable to produce work which is more local to them. This is my first attempt in using acrylics on a 12 x 16 canvas. It’s not bad but they should get better with more practise.

Exciting stuff!

I feel like I'm rekindling my friendship with art at the moment, like it were a friend I'd not seen in a while, or a friend I'd maybe said hello to when I unexpectedly bumped into them but not really had any quality time with. I'm really enjoying getting to know them again, and it actually feels like I'm getting to know myself again too as I throw myself and my emotions onto a blank page/canvas for the world to see. It’s interesting to see a new ‘me’ immerging as I develop artistically, and how my life influences my work.

I’m really excited about the future! At the moment I am literally craving art every minute of my day. Fitting it in is no longer a maybe it’s a must, and because of this I'm moving into new phase now where I am making plans. Plans include creating an official web page specifically for my art and producing a number of galleries suitable for particular audiences where I eventually want to show my work.

In the mean time I’m noting ideas and researching particular areas suitable. I am putting my self in the right place at the right time and mingling with those who know more about the craft than I do but more importantly I’m enjoying the experience. I am smiling a lot lately because I’m doing something that I love, I’m expressing myself freely with a new found confidence in my abilities. This means I can push them and get better at what I do. Hurrah! I’m looking forward to my next piece already. :)

Art progression: Part Two

Well, this is the finished peice but I think I'm going to try again and this time just use charcol. As always will show you all when its done. :)

New Poem - Lungs

I breathed you in
filled my lungs with the scent of you
swallowed your words like candy
drank each moment till it was dry
I let you hold me
let you break and mould me
gave you my body in all its flaws
till every inch flushed red for you.
I hurt for you
wept till there was no more tears for you
believed I was better for my weakness
grew stronger for being without you
I loved you unconditionally
in every way possible accepted you, but
I never expected you to be
any less giving to me.

It wasn't us.
It wasn't you.
It wasn't me.
We just both needed to breathe...

My next project...

Playing with my camera has been fun! This is my next project, to turn this into a drawing, possibly a painting, or a charcol peice. I haven't yet decided but I might just get a few free hours to try my luck.

Art Progression

The challenge to produce a vision I've had for a while now continues! In my attempts for the perfect drawing I decided to show the progression of this piece. I could have taken more photo's - I see that now, but I have to confess in getting too involved in the moment, forgetting to take more. I'm still not completely happy with the finished product... does the cloth being held need more colour? I'd love to hear anyone’s thoughts.

Is This Art?

A controversial subject most of us have an opinion on yet what is the right answer? As far as I can tell ‘Art’ doesn’t have a definition anymore, its interpretation is different for each of us depending on our own appreciation for it.

Art is born from an idea, which is then brought to life using the imagination and an amount of creative skill. The artist is subject to inspiration, there is no limit to this and so art is no longer confined to painting, sculpture or architecture as it was during the Renaissance. The freedom of today’s modern society has allowed us to develop a wider range to the meaning of the word 'art'.

So, is this art? Below are some random photo’s to ponder over… I will let you decide!
